The team at Ocean Footprint are very happy to announce that we are working towards our pledges to reduce our Carbon Footprint and saving the planet. We have now fitted a Propelair low water toilet system to help us reduce our wastage of water. As part of our ISO14001:2015 system through Lloyds Register, we have been looking at ways we can reduce our impact on the environment and the Propelair system is a perfect fit. “To be honest there is very little change to us as the toilet looks and operates in a way very similar to our old loo” said Ryan Ellis of Ocean Footprint

…a saving of up to 90% water per flush…

The revolutionary Propelair toilet system, now being adopted by universities, hospitals, fast food restaurants and many other businesses, works with a jet of pressurised air to allow just 1½ litres of water per flush, this in comparison to an average flush volume of 7-9 litres is a saving of up to 90% water per flush

“It’s great to think that each and every time one of the team or our visitors take a trip to our loo we are saving around 6 litres of water” said Peter Harrison, Managing Director of Ocean Footprint. “It was the data from the Cardiff University case study that made the most impact in our decision. It makes sense that as a business focussed on making the most of the seas we look to making a smaller impact on water resources, so we have installed Propelair’s innovative water-saving toilet. Our Propelair toilet uses just 1½ litres per flush, on my initial calculations that should save the business money whilst also helping towards reducing our environmental impact.” He then went on to say, “This is why we have decided to partner with Propelair and adopt the range of toilets into our extensive product range, both for marine, commercial and domestic installations and marks part of our pledge to become a more environmentally aware company”

…performs better…

Despite the vital role it plays in effective sanitation, the toilet has not fundamentally changed since the late 1800s. With UK toilets averaging 9 litres per flush and accounting for up to 70 – 85% of commercial water use in buildings, it’s easy to see why traditional toilet systems have become inefficient for modern use

…saving in water will be in the region of 47m³ per year…

Previous efforts to reduce the amount of water used for toilet flushing have had performance and convenience implications and in the main, received poor reviews from users. Recognising the need for an alternative solution that uses less water and performs better inspired the development of Propelair

“Even though we are a light water user, at an average of 30 flushes per day we calculate that the saving in water will be in the region of 47m³ per year of fresh water, and that is massive, and achieved whilst mainly sitting down” said Peter laughing

…reduction in germs and viruses…

Propelair Hygene

Propelair is one of the most hygienic systems available, creating a cleaner toilet environment for customers, clients and staff, while having a positive impact on health, well-being and productivity.

  • Eradicated aerosol germsPropelair reduces aerosolised germs by up to 95%. The germs are trapped inside Propelair’s unique closable lid, and then efficiently removed with its powerful air flush, creating a more hygienic and healthier washroom environment for users
  • Reduces odours – Thanks to Propelair’s unique closable lid, odours are dramatically reduced
  • Protected by SteriTouch® – Antimicrobial additives in the handle help reduce germs
  • Removes contaminants – Conventional toilets can leave 6% of previous users’ contaminants behind after flushing, which can become airborne during frequent flushes. Propelair removes up to 99.9% of contaminants, ensuring less risk of cross-contamination
  • Avoid the “sneeze effect” – Flushing a conventional toilet creates a “sneeze effect,” spraying bacteria, viruses and moisture into the air. These airborne aerosols can travel up to 1 metre away from the toilet itself contaminating the surrounding washroom surfaces. Harmful bacteria can survive up to 24 hours on washroom surfaces making it a perfect breeding ground for viruses and germs to spread. With Propelair, this unhygienic “sneeze effect” is avoided
