Ocean Footprint – ISO14001
Ocean Footprint is certified as an ISO14001 company through Lloyds Register Quality Assurance quality assurance, an organisation that is well respected in the maritime sector. The ISO14000 family addresses various aspects of environmental management and contains some of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) best-known standards. The standards provide guidance and tools for companies and organizations who want to ensure that their environmental responsibility consistently meets customer’s requirements and that our carbon footprint is consistently improved
ISO14001 sets out the criteria for an environmental management system and is the only standard in the family that can be certified to. It can be used by any organisation, large or small, regardless of its field of activity. In fact, there are over one million companies and organizations in over 170 countries certified to ISO14001
This standard is based on a number of environmental management principles including a strong sustainability focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach and continual improvement. Using ISO14001:2015 helps ensure that customers get consistent, good-quality products and services, in a sustainable manner. This is done through the implementation of our Quality and Environmental Policy, current version available here.
Reduce Carbon Footprint
Designed for organisations of any size and in any sector, ISO14001 certification enables us to demonstrate that we are committed to meeting targets set out to reduce the impact on resources and energy usage
Recycle and reuse
In many cases, independent third-party certification to ISO14001 is a requirement to trade and through our globally recognised brand, certification from LR provides a competitive advantage. Where certification is not a contractual obligation, it provides credibility to develop secure business relationships within our supply chain
Streamlined processes
By following the best practice principles found in ISO14001, certification helps develop a more robust approach to environmental management and a greater understanding of the internal and external context of our organisation, which will contribute to a reduction in our business’ environmental impact
Confidence
By following this standard Ocean Footprint can offer assurance that we don’t just follow good practice when it comes to our environmental responsibilities, we offer the day-to-day running of this process to be audited annually by the very esteemed Lloyds Register Quality Assurance quality assurance, and a name synonymous with quality and attention to detail within the maritime industry. Our ISO14001 is run in conjunction with our quality management system the ISO9001 also through Lloyds Register Quality Assurance quality assurance
Why did we use LRQA?
Accreditation
LR was the first certification body to gain accreditation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), which means we were confident they had the experience, expertise and professionalism to carry out our assessment.
Recently Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) was formed when Lloyds Register and Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) were formally split to allow the Lloyds Register section to work on marine vessel equipment classification.
Also being in the maritime sector it is added assurance that we have or accreditation from an organisation steeped in the marine sector. Ocean Footprint deals on a regular basis on vessels certified by Lloyds and provides equipment certified to Lloyds standards
Technical expertise
Their assessors are industry specialists who are matched with our business needs to ensure we add value through an effective and robust audit of our system and by making the appropriate recommendations to improve our management system and business at the same time. We have already had savings from our systems that easily exceed the costs of setting up our ISO14001
Our business helps LR to help others
The profits LR generate fund the Lloyd’s Register Foundation, a charity that supports science and engineering-related research, education and public engagement around everything they do. All of this helps them stand by the purpose that drives us every single day: Working together for a safer world
